As an artist today - working and playing in many media, Laura’s work is inspired by nature, color and word.

A former art teacher, she enjoyed bringing out students’ best and most authentic “creative self” through art discovery and exploration.

Today, that voice of play resonates in her own artwork.

Her collage work is created in a multi-media format, combining layers of paint, paper, tools, and visual texture.  The work begins with a picture, a poem, or even just a word or theme; and builds from that simple thought.  Inspired by a love of vintage materials and working with a variety of vintage paper, Laura plays with color, line, texture and images to build a composition that pleases the eye.  Much of the work sits patiently spread out around her studio for days or weeks waiting for a new color, texture, shape, word or picture until it finally “speaks” with balance and feels fully developed.

Working in both acrylic and oil, her paintings usually begin with one idea and then take on a life of their own - morphing into an interpretation of the original thought. Much like her collage work, paintings are set aside for days or weeks waiting for the right layer to complete it (but… is a painting ever finished?!)

Laura’s personal artistic journey began years ago as a graphic designer in a corporate marketing position and more recently, as an elementary school art teacher.  Currently, she is enjoying working in her studio and hunting through flea markets to find inspiration and materials to cut, tear, paint, and glue.  These materials become texture and motivation for the artwork - beginning a new and exciting life.
